Getting Around
Transport from Glasnevin
Glasnevin is not on either of Dublin's Luas lines, and the nearest DART stations are a taxi or long bus ride away. Its connectivity is entirely bus-based, which is why the BusConnects upgrades matter so much to the area. The N2 orbital route, the 1 and 4 city services, and DCU shuttle links collectively put the city centre within 20–35 minutes on a normal day.
For those commuting further — to the IFSC, Grand Canal Dock or south-county employers — Glasnevin's bus dependency adds friction compared to DART-served suburbs. This is the main reason its rents sit below comparable Drumcondra or Phibsborough streets.
Watch Out
What to Watch Out For
Glasnevin has a high concentration of older flat conversions — Victorian houses subdivided into bedsits or one-bed flats with shared entrances. Some of these predate modern BER requirements or were converted before fire-safety standards tightened in the 2010s. Always check the BER certificate (D or above is a reasonable minimum) and ask whether the letting agent can confirm smoke-detector and fire-door compliance.
The area around Ballymun Road and some parts of Glasnevin Avenue has seen sporadic scam listings — properties photographed to look like the Victorian terrace belt but actually located in poorer-quality post-war blocks elsewhere. Do not pay any holding deposit without viewing the exact property in person. Rentumo flags listings that have remained active for unusually long periods without explanation.
